This was a large garden and a precipitous site. The brief was to improve access and open up views onto the garden whilst creating more generous circulating space at the ground floor living rooms. 

The design pushes back the existing retaining wall and creates a central step flight and landings that draw you into the garden. Curved new retaining walls support the bank and can be used flexibly to  provide seating. In cutting out the bank the slivers of bedrock stone dug from the ground have been used to face the retaining walls creating a dramatic sculptural statement.
